Northwest PVA Disabled Hunting Hide Program
The NWPVA Chapter owns four well-built ramped Fox Trailer hunting blinds. Two are located in Eastern Washington and two are located in North Idaho. We get permission from landowners to place the trailers on their property to hunt each deer season.
We have had several members harvest deer and turkeys from blinds in the past years. Each disabled hunter will need a helper with them to open the blind window covers and assist them entering and exiting the blind. Each disabled hunter will have completed a hunter safety course and obtained all proper licenses and tags for the state and area they are hunting in. All state hunting laws will be precisely followed. In Idaho only 500 out of state disabled tags are issued each year. So, its first come first serve. Idaho tags can be purchased usually annually within the first two weeks in December.

You must be 70% service connected and there is usually a waiting list to hunt. You will eventually get to hunt if you’re patient. You pay for your travel to and from Casper, Wyoming and they will cover your license, tag, room, meat processing and most meals. I believe the hunt success rate is 100%.

The Kalispel’s Tribe of Indians Buffalo Herd Director contacted the Northwest Chapter asking if our membership would like to participate in harvesting buffalo from the herd each month (near Spokane, WA). The tribe manages the herd as they see fit. While many Native people revere the buffalo as a sacred animal, the Director focuses on the practical relationship between the Kalispel and the buffalo. Though bison are not native to Northeast Washington, the Director acknowledges the Kalispel people were known to hunt buffalo across Idaho and Montana. This practice is so embedded in Kalispel culture that an annual pow wow features two slaughtered buffalo, which are roasted for hours over fire by the Director and his ranch hands. They say two buffalo can feed up to 1,500 people. If you are a NWPVA member and would like to participate in this unique experience, please contact Brent King at 509-939-4878 or Bkinghomes@gmail.com. We will get you on the list and coordinate a date and time with the tribe. The tribe has a .338 caliber rifle sighted in to utilize. The chapters Trackchair is also stored onsite at their grounds for your use. It’s only a 40-minute drive from Spokane Washington, just bring a wheelchair and a cushion for the Trackchair to protect your skin. You must sign the chapter on-site waiver.
